Hello everybody, it’s Jim, welcome to my recipe page. Today, I’m gonna show you how to make a special dish, mincemeat. It is one of my favorites. For mine, I’m gonna make it a bit tasty. This is gonna smell and look delicious.
Mincemeat is one of the most favored of recent trending foods on earth. It is easy, it is quick, it tastes yummy. It’s enjoyed by millions daily. Mincemeat is something that I have loved my whole life. They are nice and they look wonderful.
Mincemeat is a traditional English treat that is usually used as filling for mince pies during Christmas, but it tastes great mixed with vanilla ice cream, as well. This recipe uses butter instead of the traditional suet, which makes this mincemeat suitable for vegetarians. Mincemeat is a mixture of chopped dried fruit, distilled spirits and spices, and sometimes beef suet, beef, or venison.
To get started with this recipe, we must prepare a few ingredients. You can have mincemeat using 15 ingredients and 3 steps. Here is how you cook it.
The ingredients needed to make Mincemeat:
- Get 600 grams apple, very finely diced
- Get 300 grams butter (or vegan shortening)
- Take 450 grams Thompson raisins
- Prepare 275 grams golden raisins
- Take 275 grams currants
- Take 450 grams brown sugar
- Take 500 ml orange marmalade (I use dark)
- Prepare 275 grams mixed citrus peel
- Get 100 grams citron peel
- Prepare 75 grams slivered almonds
- Take 10 grams cinnamon
- Take 2 grams ground cloves
- Prepare 2 grams ground cardamom
- Get 5 grams ground allspice
- Take 125 ml brandy or rum
Quite the opposite as the method is so simple; it is a case of mixing and a quick cook. Mincemeat developed as a way of preserving meat. I copied this from The Virginia Housewife by Mary Randolph many, many years ago. It is supposedly the recipe used by Martha Washington.
Steps to make Mincemeat:
- Place all ingredients in a large stockpot. Bring to a simmer over medium-low heat.
- Let simmer 45-60 minutes, until the dried fruits are plum and the mixture begins to thicken.
- Let cool to room temperature, store in the refrigerator in an airtight container, up to 1 month,
The original recipe called for ingredients by pounds. I used the cheapest, fattiest burger I could find in place of the beef amd suet. I also use a pound of mixed candied fruit instead of the citron and peel. Supposedly this can be processed in a water bath. And that explains why very few people I know actually truly enjoy mincemeat versus simply eating it out of tradition (or being forced to so as not to offend Grandma!).
