Waina is a simple meal that is also known as Masa. It is a dish that can be prepared with soaked white Maize or local Rice. It is mostly prepared in the Northern part of Nigeria and is eaten with Miyan Waina/Taushe. It can be prepared plain or sweetened with sugar.

Steps to make Waina (masa):
  1. Soak your white rice in water for 6 hours.
  2. Parboil normal rice in water. Drain it and mix with the white rice.
  3. Divide yeast into two parts. Pour half and blend with the rice.
  4. Add baking powder and flour. Stir well and add yeast. Close the container and keep it in a warm place to be double it’s size.
  5. Add a pinch of salt, two tablespoons of sugar. If it’s too thick add little water. If it’s too watery add flour. If it’s okay. Leave it like that.
  6. Heat up the tanda. Pour half a spoon oof oil to each hole. When the oil is hot use a spoon to scoop the batter into the holes. If the sides of the batter are fried, flip it and fry the other side. Serve with miyan Taushe☺️
